This trip is surprisingly gentle, abseil (rappel) 100m slowly into the Lost World, secured by your guide who abseils alongside. After the approximately 30 minute decent, you embark on your journey back to the surface though another spectacular dry cavern.

The abseil is at least twice the height of any other cave at Waitomo and the beauty of this iconic cavern is unsurpassed.

Descend slowly, bouncing and turning as the mist filtered light gives unreal qualities to the strange plants and formations.

The minimum age for this trip is 10 years and there is a minimum of 2 participants per trip.

Please don't forget to wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing (no jeans). Allow 4 hours for this trip, including at least 2 hours underground.

Cancellation Policy: All sale are final. There are no refunds.

Change Fee Policy: If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center.

A spectacular 100 meter (300 feet) abseil, into a magnificent, sheer chasm, that can only be described as an enchanting wonderland. Ferns and mosses coat massive cliff faces, it is misty, cool, strangely still and smells fresh and alive. Surrounding you is a range of breathtaking rock formations that include stalactites, stalagmites, curious bubbles, swirls, and drips.
