Glowworm & Cave Tour in Waitomo New Zealand
Glowworm & Cave Tour in Waitomo New Zealand Glowworm & Cave Tour in Waitomo New Zealand -- Our tour is one of the most unhurried glowworm tours in New Zealand. During the raft ride your night vision will begin working to its best ability and you will be amazed at the effect of thousands of softly shining glowworms. We think you will be totally Amazed. Those little glowworms are so interesting as well as beautiful and we will show you all their life cycle stages, you can watch them move about and see them use their clever silk fishing lines to catch prey. Following a visit to the glowworm cave, a gentle walk along a gorge path brings you to the Cave of the Spirit. Te Ana o te Atua, is quiet and contemplative, soft light reveals a time vault preserving evidence of past explorers, extinct animals, and abandoned stream passages.

Our tour takes place on what appears to be a typical King Country sheep and cattle farm. However, a little above ground exploration with the help of your guide reveals a lot more going on beneath the surface. Look beyond the grazing sheep to discover a limestone landscape which really behaves as a fascinating drainage system. Find out why this has created a glowworm paradise! On a Glowworm and Cave tour you can -
-See more glowworms, much longer and much closer on our raft ride Tour Notes Tours are suitable for people of all ages and average fitness. The tour takes place in the outdoors and cave temperatures are cool even in summer! Bring your comfortable walking shoes, jacket and camera. You can take photographs during the tour. We do have one provison, that you do not photograph during "lights out" in the glowworm cave. There are two good reasons, one, a bright flash will ruin yours (and everyone else's night vision). Two, you will be very disappointed with the result. When photographing glowworm lights it's necessary to turn the flash off and open the shutter for a period of time. We recommend that you find out about your camera's functions before the tour. During times of flooding the raft may not operate for safety reasons. Hot & cold drinks and biscuits are provided. Te Ana o te Atua is accessible by wheelchair. Please advise for any special needs or disabilities. Infants must be securely seated in car seat during the journey. Car seat not provided. Rates are per person in US dollars and include tax. Please reserve online, or call us toll-free at 800-719-8190. ![]() |
