This Burn The Breeze Horseback Ride is most suitable for those with some riding experience. You will explore the foothills of a major local landmark known as Pukeokahu (Hill of the Hawk). It also gives you the opportunity to experience views of Mt. Ruapehu and the northern Ruahine ranges. The ride incorporates stopping at some spectacular viewing points overlooking the Rangitikei River canyon.

Horse Trekking combines amazing scenery, the chance to feel the pulse of life in the rural countryside of the Rangitikei District, New Zealand, and the opportunity to feel the exhilaration of a galloping horse. There's a selection of horses to suit many different riding abilities. There will be one just right for you!

At the commencement of all horse rides, your riding ability is assessed and you are teamed up with the most suitable mount for you. You are also equipped with riding boots, helmet and on cooler days, a dry as a bone coat (made famous from the movie "The Man from Snowy River"), gloves and chaps (suede knee length trouser covers).

COVID-19 Protocols Updates

  • The New Zealand government has outlined a five-step reopening plan. The border is now open to New Zealand citizens coming from anywhere in the world. By May 1, fully vaccinated people from Australia or visa waiver countries - including the United Kingdom, the United States and many European nations -- will be able to enter New Zealand and self-test on arrival. By October, all visa categories will reopen, including visitor visas.

Highlights

  • Expert guides can help you improve your horse riding skills during your trek, and will be happy to answer any questions that you have.
  • "Horse Trekking" is often used to describe a bunch of old, tired and bored horses going over exactly the same route day after day. Rest assured, this is not the experience that you will get! The route taken is varied daily, keeping horses and guides alert and interested. In addition these horses are well fed ensuring they have a bit of extra energy - though not too much!
  • Australian stock saddles are used, which are like a cross between an English and a Western saddle. This type of saddle is comfortable and secure, giving a good smooth ride.
  • Riding trails wind their way through patches of bush, and over New Zealand central North Island hill country farmland. Each corner seems to open up a new vista of incredible beauty.
  • Oilskin overcoats, helmets and - on cool days - gloves are provided. The only thing you need to bring is your camera and lots of smiles!
